Are you bothered by your dogs’ constant barking? You should be, because there are a lot of possible issues that could crop up. For example, neighbors would be knocking at your door, bringing their complaint letters. If you can’t do anything with your dog after then, maybe it would be the town officials’ turn. You really don’t want to find yourself in such a mess, do you? What you need then are electric dog collars.

What are these electric dog collars?

These are devices that are usually attached in dogs as a way of disciplining them, especially when it comes to their barks. They work with the use of ultrasonic waves, which are emitted when the collar “hears” the barking sounds or vibrations. These sounds will not be heard by the human beings, so they are completely safe and not annoying to anyone. However, since dogs are known to have high hearing capacity, they would be able to pick up the sound. The high pitch will be enough to startle and stop them from barking.

What are their features?

Electric dog collars usually come with adjustable collars, but depending on the size of the neck of the dogs. The smallest one would probably be great for dogs that have no more than 16 inches in neck size, while the bigger ones can accommodate to as much as 28 inches.

It’s essential that you know the neck size of your dog. Even if these collars can be adjusted and have excellent buckle system, they also have their own size limit. You don’t want your dog to feel too choked up or gagged. His or her neck should also be restricted to create movements.

Moreover, electric dog collars have perfect bark detection technology. This means that the collar will only “listen” to the vibrations or sounds produced by your dog. There are other collars that make use of microphones, which, unfortunately, can get other kinds of sounds such as the barks of other dogs.

It might be difficult for your dog to really determine the real cause of the high-pitch sound, which is actually his or her own bark. Simply put, it may impede in your idea of disciplining him or her.

Electric collars can also be adjusted depending on the correction level you need or want. Dogs can definitely learn that the sound is reproduced because of their barks. If they are able to manage their barks more effectively, it’s only right that you would also adjust the correction level to a much lower setting.

Is this safe for dogs?

The answer is yes. After all, the real purpose of electric dog collars is not to subject them to torture or punishment. Rather, they are used for corrective measures. The sounds can disappear quickly and would not cause any damage to the hearing ability of your dog. A lot of dog owners can testify to this. As mentioned, you can also adjust the correction level of the collars to complement with the temperament of your dog.
