| One of the great gifts given by God to us is the Bible. The Bible is the word of God. It is a road map for our lives, containing information on everything. The Bible tells us how to be a productive Christian, a successful family, a loving parent, and the list goes on. The Bible not only gives us instructions, but also examples.
The Bible is the greatest “How-to” book ever written, however if we do not read and study it, we can not find out how to do what we should. Think about it. When you buy a new machine or appliances, does it not come with a manual? If you do not read the manual, you may never learn how to optimally use the appliance. How knows better how to operate the appliance? You or the one who made the appliance?
The bible is the “manual” that we need to read and apply in order to live happy lives. How knows better what we need to do to be happy? You or the one who created you?
Reading the Bible together as a family has so many benefits. It is a great way to bond as a family, learning and discussing together. It is also essential to strengthening your faith and beliefs. There are so many character building stories and lessons to be learned from the Bible, for instance the story of the son, who demanded his inheritance from his father and then proceeded to squander it. We learn how to choose friends wisely, how to value our parents, and how to forgive.
Many of us have been taught so many things about the bible from childhood. How do we know what is truth and what is myth? The only way to know to find reliable answers, and to find out what the bible really teaches is to read and study the bible for ourselves. There can be no greater or more fulfilling experience that to finally come to know the truth about God!
There are many Bible study guides and tools available for you to use. It is also a great idea to keep a journal or book of notes on your study. When you find a verse that is especially helpful or encouraging to you, make a note of it so you can find it again when you need a little motivation.
Some people may find the Bible difficult to read because of the language used, but there are several translations available that are easy to read and understand.
The old saying “Knowledge is power”, really is true. The more Biblical knowledge you and your family have, the more powerful you become to stand firm on your beliefs. The bible puts it best when it says: “This means every lasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one you sent forth, Jesus Christ”. (John 17:3 New World Translation).
And finally: “And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free”. ( John 8:32 King James Version).
You owe it to yourself and to your loved ones to find out the truth about what the bible really teaches!
