ANAND: August 11, 2010. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi expressing deep concerns over challenges being faced by the country’s rural landscape, urged the policy makers to re-define ways and means for improving life of the villagers.
On Tuesday, he deliberated with experts from across the country at the Institute of Rural Management Anand (IRMA) on the topic of consultation on “The challenges of negotiating India’s rural transformation: Evolving strategies for IRMA’s response”
“Traditional definition of rural and urban India is fast changing as people move from smaller set-ups to bigger ones and now their means of livelihood are both from agriculture and other sources as well,” opined Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on the occasion.
Stressing that development modules should be for improving the life of individuals, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi told the gathering of the experts from IRMA, JNU and other institutes of the country that in the present scenario over 500 million people are in state of transition from one place to another in search of more avenues to improve their lots.
During deliberations, Congress General Secreatry Rahul Gandhi and other experts gathered on the occasion talked about the traditional mode of economic activities like agriculture and the present day model of development. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi discussed as how migration from rural to urban landscape was taking place and also talked about migrant groups.
“Hence, the policies should focus on betterment of life of individuals,” deliberated Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, asking the experts on the occasion not to categorise the country in segments like urban and rural while forming policies for developing economy of people.
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on several occasions in the recent past has maintained that a strategic roadmap should be drawn for overall economic growth of people, with due focus on challenges and opportunities confronting the rural sector in the country.
