I'm watching my wife put in her new set of earrings. For our evening tonight, she's opted for simple silver hoops which she says she can leave in overnight as they are comfortable to sleep with. The earrings match the celtic cross necklace which she always wears.
I begin to wonder why she always opt for silver jewellery and now hardly wears her gold wedding band. "That was a mistake," she cries - thankfully referring to the gold we gave each other on our big day rather than our marriage.
Gold was popular in the 1970s but silver has been making a comeback recently. As my wife says, gold is now perceived as being flashy and gauche. What makes silver stand out to her is the fact that it is an incredible versatile metal. It matches all skin colours and can work with any particular outfit. Just like the hoop earrings that she is wearing with a dark ball room dress this evening.
